Summer is one of the most hyped seasons. While this season comes with a lot of perks, the cons also tend to take the center stage as the temperature starts to soar and the sun becomes quite unbearable and unforgiving. Exposing your skin to the sun for prolonged hours is never a good idea, especially when you aren’t wearing your sunscreen. The harsh sun rays can cause irreversible damage to your skin; therefore, one has to be extra attentive towards their skin’s needs when it comes to summer.

The scorching heat in summer feels anything but gentle on the skin, the harsh rays emitted from the sun not only steal your skin’s radiance but also leaves it looking dull and oily. As the temperature and humidity level starts to rise, the pores on your skin start to expand, enabling dirt, oil, and other impurities to penetrate your skin, which in turn, leads to clogged pores, blackheads, and acne. And if you want to keep yourself out of this nasty situation, then you should adopt a couple of skincare habits that will help keep your skin bright and healthy throughout summer.

Keep your makeup light

Your makeup is one of the leading causes of clogged pores and acne, layering on different makeup products makes it slightly difficult for your skin to breathe. Instead of putting on layers and layers of makeup on your skin, you should try to keep everything as light and minimal as possible. Heavy foundations aren’t an ideal choice for summer; you should use something lightweight that will give you just enough coverage to make your skin look even-toned such as a CC cream.

Wear sunscreen without fail

Exposing your unprotected skin to the sun for prolonged hours can lead to sun damage. Unlike your makeup products, sunscreen doesn’t give you a choice whether or not to use it. Your skin cannot do without the protection an SPF provides, it is one of the keys to healthy and bright skin, therefore, you cannot skip your sunscreen even for a day. Apart from applying sunscreen on your face, make sure to cover other areas as well such as the neck, ears, hands, and feet.

Exfoliation helps

Do we even need to tell you why exfoliation is so important for your skin? We are sure you must already know the benefits of exfoliation and what all amazing things this skincare step can do for your skin. Ideally, you should exfoliate your skin twice a week, not more, not less. It helps to draw out all the dirt, dead skin, and oil trapped within your pores. Exfoliating your skin more than it’s required leads to skin irritation, therefore, you shouldn’t exfoliate your skin more than twice a week. And when it comes to the scrub, you should pick a gentle formula.

Cut down on your shower time

Our bodies tend to sweat a lot during summers, and while taking a shower is a great way to get respite from the scorching heat, taking multiple showers during the day, especially using hot water, leaves your skin more prone to sun damage. You should either use cold or lukewarm water to take a shower and try to keep the duration of your shower 4 minutes or less.

Keep yourself hydrated

It goes without saying that water is crucial for maintaining healthy and bright skin. And considering our bodies tend to lose more water in summer as compared to other seasons, it becomes even more important to keep yourself well hydrated throughout the day. Drinking plenty of water daily helps flush out toxins from your body, thereby making your skin look healthy and glowing.
